ASA WRIGHT NATURE CENTER
The Nature Center main building is the original homestead. A person in a wheelchair can enter this
building with assistance (check with staff prior to arriving for availability of assistance) by using a steep
but fairly short ramp. Once at the top of the ramp, all of the building is wheelchair accessible. There are
two guest rooms with a degree of bathroom accessibility for a person who must remain in a wheelchair.
They do have a little ramp to access the shower in the large bathroom. You must contact the Nature
Center staff to determine if the bathroom/guest room would meet your individual needs. The dining
room is fully accessible inside the Nature Center and the staff will accommodate dietary needs with prior
notice.
The main attraction of this Nature Center is the large, accessible veranda which overlooks wonderfully
varied plantings, feeders, and a large valley, all of which attract a great assortment of bird species. One
would do well to bring a spotting scope to take full advantage of the ever-changing birds that can be
seen from this porch. Many birds can be easily seen with the naked eye, many with binoculars, and
many the aid of a scope. Several days spent on this veranda would not be too many for the avid birder.
There are guides available on the veranda to answer questions and point out birds. Trips away from the
Nature Center can be arranged, and many birds can be seen from inside a vehicle or from easy paths.
Browse the Asa Wright web site and contact them to arrange such trips.
